Ferrari<\/a> has unveiled its 2021 car, the last of the 10 Formula One teams to do so.<\/p>\n

After their worst season in 40 years, the team has made what it calls a "radical change" in an attempt to close the gap to the front-running cars.<\/p>\n

The new car also features a bright green sponsor's logo on the engine cover for the first time.<\/p>\n

"The color looks a little bit more dark compared to last year and there's this other shade of red in the back of the car," driver Charles Leclerc<\/a> said, noting that the green "was a last-minute change."<\/p>\n

Leclerc and new teammate Carlos Sainz<\/a> will have their first laps in the car during a filming day in Bahrain tonight (AEDT), ahead of pre-season testing on Friday.<\/p>\n

Although regulations are frozen from 2020, teams were permitted two "development tokens" to use on their cars. Ferrari opted to use both on the rear of the car.<\/p>\n

"When we tackled the project for the SF21, we had to choose right away which part of the car we'd give our attention to to make a radical change," head of chassis, Enrico Cardile said.<\/p>\n

"We chose the rear, creating a new transmission and new suspension. This, along with the work done by our power unit engineers gave us a much more tapered rear end compared to the SF1000.<\/p>\n

"We also went over the cooling system. We increased the authority of the central radiator and designed a more down-washing bodywork.<\/p>\n

"Aerodynamics was one of the areas impacted by the changed regulations, intended to reduce the capacity of developing vertical downforce, making sure the tyres remain intact.<\/p>\n

"This is why, when we stated working on the car's aerodynamics, we gave ourselves two objectives: on the one hand, increasing the aerodynamic charge lost due to the regulations, and on the other reducing drag."<\/p>\n

Ferrari will be hoping for a much improved performance after a disastrous 2020. The team finished sixth in the constructors' championship, an embarrassing result for the best-resourced team on the grid. Leclerc finished eight in the championship, and Sebastian Vettel<\/a> 13th, with the pair managing only three podium finishes between them.<\/p>\n
