Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury<\/a> has insisted that the club is adamant to change the culture after a damning report revealed a history of systemic racism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking publicly for the first time since the release of the report, Pendlebury hit back at suggestions that the letter written by the club's players was a token gesture.<\/p>\n

"I think it sort of came across as just the AFL players but it was all the athletes (AFL, AFLW, netballers) involved in our club and they endorsed the letter that we wrote," he told reporters at the AFL's annual captains day.<\/p>\n

"We're really focused on the 18-step process that we've got to put in place.<\/p>\n

"It wasn't just the letter for us and then we go 'we've done our bit'.<\/p>\n

"Now it's about how can we help and what we need to do. We're really keen to be actively involved as much as we can."<\/p>\n

The Magpies games record holder added that the initial release of the report was "confronting" in an interview with AFL.com.au<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Pendlebury also touched on the departure of long-time club president Eddie McGuire<\/a>, admitting that the ever-present figure will be missed.<\/p>\n

"Eddie was a huge figure at the football club and he did so much for the place. He remains a black and white man so we'll miss Ed," he said.<\/p>\n

Pendlebury and the Magpies will open their 2021 season with a clash against the Western Bulldogs and former teammate Adam Treloar in Round One.<\/p>\n
