Compelling video has surfaced of Adelaide Crows coach Matthew Nicks<\/a> delivering Brad Crouch<\/a> a blistering warning during a team meeting early last season, telling him to prioritise defence or "grab your bag, put your shoes in it and walk out".<\/p>\n

Crouch left Adelaide for St Kilda at the end of last season, ending an eight-year stint with the Crows in which he played 95 games and won the 2019 best-and-fairest award, but not before copping a spray from Nicks after the side's 75-point thrashing at the hands of Port Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Midfield coach Michael Godden set the scene.<\/p>\n

"I just want you to be really clear – what we did wasn't good enough," Godden said in Amazon Prime's Marking their Mark<\/em> documentary.<\/p>\n

"Our hearts go into it, your hearts go into it and what we saw was not us.<\/p>\n

"The most embarrassing loss our footy club has had in I don't know how long."<\/p>\n

Footage was then shown of Crouch not showing enough urgency when the Power had the footy.<\/p>\n

And while the 27-year-old agreed, conceding he was "just a little slow to get back", he then tried to heap blame on his teammates.<\/p>\n

"I look at the stuff we can do before that and at that contest and it hangs me out to dry as well," Crouch said.<\/p>\n

Nicks hit out.<\/p>\n

"If you don't want to defend, if that's not your priority, grab your bag, put your shoes in it and walk out," Nicks said.<\/p>\n

"You cannot play in this team."<\/p>\n

When Nicks took up the Crows' coaching gig after season 2019 the former Swan was tasked with leading Adelaide back to dominance.<\/p>\n

Since getting comprehensively beaten by Richmond in an upset 2017 grand final defeat, Adelaide plummeted to 12th in 2018, finished 11th in 2019 and collected the wooden spoon last year.<\/p>\n

They've also lost an avalanche of star-studded talent since the 2017 decider, including Charlie Cameron, Eddie Betts, Jake Lever and Josh Jenkins, while the fall-out of their infamous 2018 pre-season camp has been staggering.<\/p>\n
