Fiji's head coach\ufeff Wise Kativerata has opened the door for ex-NRL<\/a> star Jarryd Hayne<\/a> to return to the field in the upcoming Pacific Championships.<\/p>\n

Hayne has reportedly been working with reputed sprint trainer\ufeff Roger Fabri in recent weeks as speculation mounted about a possible comeback.<\/p>\n

Fiji begins their campaign against Papua New Guinea at home on October 19 but has not named their squad.<\/p>\n

Since Hayne isn't a contracted NRL player, the ARL Commission would need to approve his addition to Fiji's team.<\/p>\n

"The door is open for him if he wants to join," Kaitverata told The Fiji Sun.<\/p>\n

\"Jarryd<\/p>\n

"He (Hayne) is fit but we are just waiting on his decision if he is interested, which will be also be a boost for the team."<\/p>\n

Hayne, 36, won an appeal in June against a rape conviction and was released from prison. He hasn't represented Fiji in six years.<\/p>\n

He represented Australia at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, and his father's native Fiji at the 2008 and 2017 tournaments.<\/p>\n

"So far we've been talking to other NRL players who are interested in representing the country.<\/p>\n

"We've had talks with Mark Nawaqanitawase, Tui Kamikamica and Api Koroisau to name a few," said Kativerata<\/p>\n

Koroisau's place in the team is clouded, after being handed a three-week suspension\ufeff for a tackle on Clint Gutherson in the 60-26 loss to Parramatta last weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
