Head coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helms will be on leave pending an ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs42.com\/news\/local\/watch-video-shows-hoover-football-coaches-hump-push-players-at-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video obtained by WKRG<\/a> of a recent Hoover football practice, head coach Drew Gilmer can be seen thrusting his hips towards a Bucs football player\u2019s face while the player was lying on the ground. In a separate clip, defensive coordinator Adam Helms can be seen running towards a player during a drill, knocking him to the ground while forcefully removing his helmet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Per release from Hoover City Schools:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8230; \u00a0the decision to place the coaches on leave was \u201cmade to ensure a thorough and impartial review of recent developments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe safety and well-being of our students and staff are top priorities,\u201d Superintendent Dr. Kevin Maddox said in the release. \u201cWe are taking this matter seriously and working diligently to resolve it promptly and fairly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The release also stated that \u201cParents, students and staff will be informed of any significant developments as the investigation progresses.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/sports\/2024\/08\/hoover-football-coach-drew-gilmer-placed-on-administrative-leave.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Al.com reported<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Gilmer, who is new to Hoover but coached for eight seasons at Clay-Chalkville, did not respond to a question about the videos that prompted the probe. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Per<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the report, the videos circulating displayed questionable behavior by some Hoover coaches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gilmer won the last three 6A titles at Clay-Chalkville. He had an 81-12 record with the Cougars. His 2023 team went 14-0 and defeated Saraland in the championship game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;It was a difficult decision, mainly because of all the relationships we&#8217;ve built there over the years,&#8221; <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/abc3340.com\/sports\/high-school\/watch-drew-gilmer-expected-to-be-introduced-as-new-hoover-football-coach-clay-chalkville-high-school-ahsaa-rush-propst-josh-niblett-wade-waldrop-press-conference-hoover-met-stadium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gilmer said in January<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> when he took the Hoover job <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> been at Clay-Chalkville for 14 years <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">so<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that&#8217;s tough.
