{"id":412048,"date":"2024-07-13T16:03:43","date_gmt":"2024-07-13T16:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=412048"},"modified":"2024-07-14T00:06:57","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T00:06:57","slug":"best-day-of-my-life-krejcikova-wins-second-slam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=412048","title":{"rendered":"&#039;Best day of my life&#039;: Krejcikova wins second slam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barbora Krejcikova kept insisting that nobody \u2014 not her friends, not her family, not even herself \u2014 would believe she won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/wimbledon-641\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wimbledon<\/a> for her second Grand Slam title.<\/p>\n<p>Her first major championship, as an unseeded player at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/roland-garros-26a7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roland-Garros<\/a> three years ago, certainly was a surprise. This one, which came via a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Jasmine Paolini in the final at the All England Club, was maybe just as unpredictable, sure, but perhaps now it&#x27;s time to recognise that these sorts of results from Krejcikova are not only possible but make perfect sense.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It&#x27;s just unreal what just happened. Then came a three-setter in the first round last week, adding to the doubts.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6357855339112\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/pickerimage-69.jpg\" alt=\"Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 clinches first set\" data-vms-id=\"ref:clyk6mv5x000e0hnmk7bja6j4\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But by the end of the fortnight, there Paolini was during the trophy ceremony, telling Krejcikova: &quot;You play such beautiful tennis.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Krejcikova is the eighth woman to leave Wimbledon as the champion in the past eight editions of the event. Not yet, anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"1914b845-4c5a-46c6-9b7a-aa0d29893de1\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/1914b845-4c5a-46c6-9b7a-aa0d29893de1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"4192\" data-height=\"2773\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the lopsided first set, Paolini went to the locker room. She emerged a different player, one who no longer looked like someone burdened by residual fatigue from the longest women&#x27;s semifinal in Wimbledon history, her 2-hour, 51-minute win over Donna Vekic on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Paolini had come back from dropping the first set in that one, so she knew she had it in her. And she began the second set against Krejcikova in style, using deep groundstrokes to grab a 3-0 advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Once the match was tied at a set apiece, it was Krejcikova who left the court to try to recalibrate.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"3cde64d8-4328-4c32-8b29-08ce50598517\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/3cde64d8-4328-4c32-8b29-08ce50598517-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"7870\" data-height=\"5247\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Her shots that suddenly went so awry in the match&#x27;s middle \u2014 after just four winners in the second set, she accumulated 14 in the third \u2014 were back to being crisp and clean.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I was just telling myself to be brave,&quot; Krejcikova said.<\/p>\n<p>At 3-all in the deciding set, it was Paolini who faltered, double-faulting for the only time all afternoon to get broken.<\/p>\n<p>Krejcikova then held at love for 5-3, but when she served for the championship, things got a little tougher.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"d72fe72a-9062-416b-9387-4ce9baa3c73c\" src=\"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/d72fe72a-9062-416b-9387-4ce9baa3c73c-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"6086\" data-height=\"4058\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She needed to save a pair of break points and required three match points to get across the finish line, winning when Paolini missed a backhand.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Nobody believes that I got to the final. And I think nobody&#x27;s going to believe that I won Wimbledon,&quot; Krejcikova said several minutes later. &quot;I still cannot believe it.
