Adam Reynolds<\/a> has declared he doesn't care what Cooper Cronk thinks of him after the former Storm and Roosters premiership star backed the Rabbitohs' decision not to offer their captain a long-term deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Reynolds has made no secret of the fact that he is unhappy with his club's one-year offer for 2022, with the 30-year-old coming off contract at the end of this season.<\/p>\n

He has so far baulked at the deal tabled by the Rabbitohs<\/a> and is due to sit down with the club for another round of talks in the coming days.<\/p>\n

While many NRL observers were stunned by South Sydney's decision not to offer Reynolds a longer extension when news of the stalled contract talks first broke, Cronk, who has taken up a role as a pundit for Fox Sports since retiring, was in the Rabbitohs' corner due to Reynolds' inability to pilot his side beyond preliminary final weekend over the last three seasons.<\/p>\n

"I can understand where Souths are coming from in that regard … He's got to three prelims in the last three years and failed," Cronk said pointedly.<\/p>\n

When those words got back to Reynolds via the Sydney Morning Herald, the 2014 premiership-winner was quick to return serve.<\/p>\n

"One player doesn't solve the outcome of a game \u2013 he [Cronk] should know that from the [2018] grand final," Reynolds told the Herald.<\/p>\n

"They [the Roosters] pretty much did it without him."<\/p>\n

Reynolds' comments of course refer to the Roosters' famous triumph over the Melbourne Storm in which Cronk carried a broken scapula after getting hammered by Sam Burgess a week earlier.<\/p>\n

Cronk has been celebrated for his courage and his ability to organise the Roosters' attack in that game even though he was barely able to pass or tackle, with Luke Keary winning the Clive Churchill Medal after perfectly executing his role as the side's primary playmaker.<\/p>\n

After taking a stab at Cronk for being a passenger in that grand final, Reynolds added that he didn't care for the legendary halfback's opinion of him.<\/p>\n

"I don't care what he thinks of me or his thoughts," Reynolds said.<\/p>\n

"I haven't had anything to do with him. If it comes from my coaches or someone within the club, I would care. But nobody from the club has said anything like that to me."<\/p>\n

In fact, according to Reynolds, the Rabbitohs are keen to keep him for "the next four or five years, but on one-year contracts at a time".<\/p>\n

It's been reported that South Sydney have learnt the hard way about the pitfalls of offering long-term deals to ageing stars after being forced to give hefty pay-outs to Burgess and Greg Inglis, who both retired before their contracts finished due to chronic injuries.<\/p>\n

Reynolds has got through 205 games without spending long periods on the sidelines but his relatively strong history of staying healthy so far hasn't been enough to convince the Rabbitohs to give him the long-term deal that could see him into retirement.<\/p>\n

According to a Fox Sports report the Rabbitohs will up their offer to a two-year deal with an option for a third year in the club's favour when Reynolds' camp next meets with the club to re-open negotiations.<\/p>\n
