Matthew Lloyd<\/a> has urged Melbourne<\/a> to prepare for "life after Max Gawn<\/a>", with their star ruckman battling an ankle injury.<\/p>\n

Gawn sustained the injury in the Dees' 54-point win over the Eagles in round 17.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Scans revealed the ruckman sustained a chip to the base of his right fibula, which has ruled him out for "two to three weeks".<\/p>\n

But while he waits and recovers, Lloyd is urging Melbourne to use it as a reminder that Gawn won't be around forever.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think they have to start planning for life after Max Gawn," Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\"Max<\/p>\n

"I think he's got one more year in him of stardom\ufeff, but I think he's a banged up 32-year-old."<\/p>\n

But Lloyd admits the Demons have issues with attracting ruckmen due to their loyalty to Gawn, who has continued to front up and succeed as their number one option in the ruck.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"But how do you attract a ruckman when Luke Jackson (Fremantle), Brodie Grundy (Sydney) have all moved on?" Lloyd asked.<\/p>\n

"They need to get somebody else there to support him.<\/p>\n

\"Both<\/p>\n

"Every ruckman loves being the number one ruckman.<\/p>\n

"But every ruckman that's come … they just don't get a run."<\/p>\n

The Demons have seen the back of Jackson and Grundy, who couldn't get a look in past their six-time All-Australian ruck.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Both have become key cogs at their new clubs in Fremantle and Sydney, leaving the Demons with no one else to step in now that Gawn is injured.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\"Max<\/p>\n

Meantime, Gawn became the second Demons player this season to play through a severe injury.<\/p>\n

It came after star midfielder Christian Petracca came back onto the ground after copping a knock from Collingwood's Darcy Moore.<\/p>\n

Petracca underwent surgery in June to repair four broken ribs, lacerations to the spleen and a punctured lung<\/a> after the incident in the Demons' 38-point loss to the Pies in round 13.<\/p>\n

It raises further questions around Melbourne's doctors, considering Gawn also re-entered the field of play with his injury.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I don't know what the (AFL) players association (is doing). They've got more money than God.\ufeff Have a year without giving the players a laptop," Eddie McGuire said.<\/p>\n
