Scroll on for today&#x27;s memory.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/topic\/most-memorable-olympic-moments-6gsd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-id=\"4033cc44-8c4b-4837-a4e7-6550e2cd6039\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/4033cc44-8c4b-4837-a4e7-6550e2cd6039\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a moment that crushed American hearts and set a green and gold party raging.<\/p>\n<p>The final of the women&#x27;s water polo tournament at the Sydney 2000 <a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/olympics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Olympics\">Olympics<\/a> appeared to be headed to extra time. Australia and the US were locked at 3-3, and the dying seconds were ticking away.<\/p>\n<p>But with 1.3 seconds left on the clock, Australia&#x27;s Yvette Higgins, taking a free throw, fired a rocket. Pelting the ball from nine metres out, she sent it sailing over the flailing hands of two defenders, past a desperate attempt from the goalkeeper, and cannoning into the top-left corner of the net.
