E\ufeffngland cricket<\/a> legend Sir Geoffrey Boycott has revealed a second cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n

The 83-year-old \ufeffwas first diagnosed with throat cancer in 2002, and was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.<\/p>\n

In a statement to the UK Telegraph, the former Test captain confirmed the cancer had returned.<\/p>\n

He will have surgery in a fortnight.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"In the last few weeks I have had an MRI scan, CT scan, a PET scan and two biopsies and it has now been confirmed I have throat cancer and will require an operation," Boycott said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffFrom past experience I realise that to overcome cancer a second time I will need excellent medical treatment and quite a bit of luck.<\/p>\n

"Even if the operation is successful, every cancer patient knows they have to live with the possibility of it returning.<\/p>\n

"So I will just get on with it and hope for the best."<\/p>\n

Boycott was a batter who scored 8114 Test runs for England and captained the team four times in 1978.<\/p>\n

Since retirement in 1982 he went on to become a prominent commentator with the BBC.<\/p>\n
