Sky Blues<\/a> coach Kylie Hilder has implored the NRL to recognise the growth of women's professional rugby league by extending Women's State of Origin<\/a> matches to 80 minutes.<\/p>\n

Women's Origin matches currently consist of two 35-minute halves, not taking into consideration extra time for a drawn result.<\/p>\n

While this is consistent with the length of NRLW<\/a> matches, an extension at Origin level would bring the women's series into line with the men's.<\/p>\n

Thursday's \ufeffdecisive third game in Townsville will determine this year's victor after the NRL lengthened the Women's State of Origin series to three games in 2024.<\/p>\n

With the move \ufeffto a best-of-three format, Hilder insisted that the game's most elite female players are now ready to take the next step at Origin level.<\/p>\n

"One-hundred per cent they are [ready for 80 minutes]," she told media on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"I think everyone wants it now.<\/p>\n

"I know that they didn't like it because they thought the game sort of deteriorated in the last five minutes, but you've seen, these girls are athletes now \u2014 they train hard, they're ready for it \u2014 I think they deserve to play a full 80-minute game."<\/p>\n

The Sky Blues \ufefftriumphed 22-12 in game one at Suncorp Stadium and looked to have wrapped up the series before the Maroons<\/a>' Lauren Brown scored a last-ditch field goal to snatch game two in Newcastle 11-10 and force a decider.<\/p>\n

Queensland reclaimed last year's series on points aggregate after both sides won a game a piece.<\/p>\n

Game three will mark NSW co-captains Isabelle Kelly and Kezie Apps' 10th Origin appearance.<\/p>\n

Having been there for every significant change in Women's Origin, Kelly said it was special to celebrate her milestone during the first-ever series decider.<\/p>\n

"Kez [Apps] and I probably … forget how long we've been in this jersey but this one is really special for both of us because it's the first decider and we want to really put our best foot forward," she said.<\/p>\n

Despite making a name for herself as one of rugby league's most decorated female players, Apps admitted she could have never dreamt of becoming a mainstay for the Sky Blues.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI didn't expect to play one game for New South Wales, let alone be here for 11 years," she said.<\/p>\n

"It's been a very long journey in the women's game.<\/p>\n

"Every year that we've played something new has happened and the growth of it has been amazing \u2014 and for us to be there through it all and to witness the three-game series is definitely a really special moment."<\/p>\n
