She has a grazed torso, knee and arm, but her Olympic<\/a> dream is alive.<\/p>\n

In a dramatic finish to an 800m semi-final heat at the United States' Paris 2024<\/a> track and field trials\ufeff on Monday (AEST), Kate Grace took a fall and crashed into the clock as she scrapped for a top-two place.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old mother-of-one was placed third with 10 metres remaining, trailing Athing Mu and Michaela Rose, but in the final metre she edged ahead of Rose to finish second and qualify automatically for the final.<\/p>\n

She collided with Rose as she barged past her at a rapid pace in lane one, before\ufeff losing her footing and smashing shoulder-first into the clock.<\/p>\n

Mu finished first with a time of \ufeff1:58.84, ahead of Grace in 1:58.97 and Rose in 1:59.00, all of them hitting the 1:59.30 Olympic entry standard.<\/p>\n

Crucially, Grace will be able to take her place in the final, having escaped serious injury in the fall.<\/p>\n

Grace gave birth to her first child\ufeff in May last year and is now aiming to qualify for her second Olympic Games, eight years after finishing eighth in the 800m final at Rio 2016.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI was coming up, she was going wide and I thought I had lane \u2014 I did have lane \u2014 but I think everyone just gets kind of tipsy as you go to the line, and there were a lot of us there. But I don't think there was any foul play or anything; I think we were all just going for the line, honestly."<\/p>\n

The same track and field session at Hayward Field also saw world champion Noah Lyles take out the 100m dash with a time of 9.83 seconds (+0.4 wind).<\/p>\n

Kenny Bednarek finished second in 9.87 and Fred Kerley, the 2022 world champion, took third in 9.88.<\/p>\n

"Part of the plan, nothing's changed," Lyles said after the win.<\/p>\n
