If you thought Joe Schmidt<\/a> had his work cut out for him, spare a thought for Warren Gatland.<\/p>\n

The \ufeffWales coach has overseen seven straight losses dating back to last year's Rugby World Cup, with Sunday's (AEST) 41-13 humbling by South Africa in London<\/a> coming on the back of a winless Six Nations campaign.<\/p>\n

The going will get easier Down Under \ufeffas world No.10 Wales meet the ninth ranked Wallabies<\/a> for back to back Tests in Sydney (July 6) and Melbourne (July 13).<\/p>\n

But before boarding a long haul flight, Gatland was forced to field questions about a \ufeffdramatic walk out from one of his players.<\/p>\n

Hooker Sam Parry \ufeffquit the team camp near Cardiff last week for reportedly feeling "disrespected."<\/p>\n

According to the Daily Mail, Parry thought he was in the squad to tour Australia but was then advised he was involved only to help the other hookers prepare.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old has seven Wales caps and wasn't injured.<\/p>\n

"I was surprised he left the squad. He didn't talk to me," Gatland said.<\/p>\n

"When Sam came in the week before I was straight up with him, told him the situation he was in with the squad. I said that he was initially covering for Elliot (Dee) with the injury, so I was clear on that.<\/p>\n

"I said: 'I don't want to stuff you around, you've been brilliant for us when you have come in in the past and we'll just see what happens with that.' So I'm not sure how I disrespected him there.<\/p>\n

"If I have upset him, there was no intention. I just would have rather him come and see me and said the way he felt. I understand his agent has been pretty vocal and stuff which is a little bit disappointing."\ufeff<\/p>\n

The injured Dee dropped out of the squad the day after Parry left.<\/p>\n

"He (Parry) would have been on the plane," Gatland said.<\/p>\n

Instead, Wales brought in uncapped Efan Daniel to join captain Dewi Lake and Evan Lloyd as the hookers in the squad.<\/p>\n

Gatland and new Wallabies boss Schmidt, both New Zealanders\ufeff, have a long coaching rivalry through Six Nations encounters.<\/p>\n

Schmidt coached Ireland to great success between 2013-19 but, in sharp contrast to predecessor Eddie Jones, is keeping expectations in check \ufeffwith Australia.<\/p>\n

"I guess we'll find out in two weeks just how competitive the group can be," Schmidt said after naming a squad of 38 players that included 13 with no caps.<\/a><\/p>\n

"It's going to be difficult. You've got five new coaches. I'm meeting some of these guys on the grass for the first time in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

\"Wallabies<\/p>\n

"And to have four days there and then a couple of trainings before we play Wales – Warren has spent a lot of time in Wales.<\/p>\n

"He knows some of those players really well. And there's a continuity and rhythm to what they do. So we have to build a rhythm very, very quickly. I've never been one to make big promises.<\/p>\n
