E\ufeffddie McGuire<\/a> has issued a plea to Brisbane's Olympic<\/a> committee after seeing what Los Angeles has in store for its Games.<\/p>\n

The Queensland capital will play host to the 2032 Olympics, although state politics is hampering preparations for Australia's biggest sporting event in three decades.<\/p>\n

\ufeffDebate is raging in parliament and on the streets about where marquee events like the swimming should be held.<\/p>\n

McGuire fears Brisbane is in danger of being upstaged by its American counterpart in 2028.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles over the weekend unveiled plans which have put the sporting world on notice.<\/p>\n

Organisers intend to plant an Olympic swimming pool inside SoFi Stadium, which typically seats more than 70,000 fans and is the home of NFL team the LA Rams.<\/p>\n

It follows the USA's Paris swim trials, which were held in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis – home to the NFL's Colts\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Australia's swim trials \ufeffwere held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre a fortnight ago, and it's up in the air whether the same venue is an option to host the world in 2032.<\/p>\n

"The new way of doing stadiums is going to leave us in the dust," McGuire – a former president of AFL club Collingwood – told Nine's Eddie and Jimmy<\/em> podcast.<\/p>\n

"This is more of a plea to the Brisbane organisers of the Olympic Games – don't make us look like Hicksville.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The blueprints for Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium swimming idea left the world in awe when they were released.<\/p>\n

McGuire says it should now be the benchmark for Brisbane to work towards.<\/p>\n

He wants Brisbane's Olympic swimming venue to have a large stadium atmosphere.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The Australian trials were great – average crowd for the Australian trials? Two and a half thousand," he said.<\/p>\n

"Average crowd at the US trials? Thirty to 40 thousand. It was unbelievable in the stadium.<\/p>\n

"They will have world-record crowds for the swimming events in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

"At the moment the Brisbane Olympic Committee haven't figured out where they're going to put it. They're talking about having an athletics stadium that can have 30 or 40,000.<\/p>\n

"At the moment, up in dear old Brisbane, they can't figure out what they're doing. Yikes.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles plan includes hosting the Olympics opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium, then bringing a swimming pool in.<\/p>\n
