Chicago White Sox pitcher Christian Edwards has copped an 80-game suspension after testing positive to a performance-enhancing substance.<\/p>\n

Major League Baseball<\/a> announced the sanction on Saturday morning (AEST) after Edwards returned a positive test for Boldenone under the minor league drug program.<\/p>\n

Boldenone is an anabolic steroid that is now mainly used in horses.<\/p>\n

Edwards, a 25-year-old right-hander yet to make his debut in the MLB, was 2-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 17 relief appearances this season for Kannapolis of the Class A Carolina League.<\/p>\n

An 11th-round pick in the 2021 amateur draft from Jacksonville State, Edwards received a $225,000 signing bonus.<\/p>\n

He missed the 2023 season because of right shoulder inflammation.<\/p>\n

Edwards was the fifth player disciplined this year under the minor league program and one has been suspended for MLB's new drug program for minor league players assigned outside the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n
