M\ufeffarnus Labuschagne<\/a> has emerged as a future leader for Australia, replacing Test teammate Usman Khawaja<\/a> as the state captain for Queensland.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old will take over the reins for the Bulls in the first-class and one-day competitions, with the board \ufefflocking in the change at a meeting last week.<\/p>\n

Labuschagne tasted the captaincy last year for a brief period in Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup fixtures against South Australia, but will now take over the position from Khawaja on a permanent basis heading into the 2024\/25 summer.<\/p>\n

Khawaja – who will remain part of the Queensland set-up moving forward – will continue in his role as Brisbane Heat captain in the Big Bash<\/a> competition.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"Both Marnus and Usman are strong leaders and we're looking to the future by appointing Marnus to lead the Bulls," chief executive Terry Svenson said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"It is an ideal opportunity for Marnus to once again showcase his leadership abilities and provide him with experience at first class and one-day level. <\/p>\n

"He and our players enjoyed the opportunity he had last season to lead the Bulls and Marnus is excited about the season ahead and working with new coach, Johan Botha."<\/p>\n

Labuschagne is currently overseas plying his trade in the English County competition, after missing out on Australia's squad for the T20 World Cup.<\/p>\n

The right-hander \ufeffis looking forward to stepping up for Queensland later this year.<\/p>\n
