Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> has continued to cement himself as the next superstar of tennis, winning a third grand slam title at the French Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old proved too strong for Alexander Zverev<\/a> in the final on Monday morning (AEST), coming away with a hard-fought five-set win.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz added to his trophy cabinet, which already included the 2022 US Open and 2023 Wimbledon titles, winning the coveted clay-court event at Roland-Garros.<\/p>\n

His rise in the sport has been a highlight in recent years as the careers of the big three – Roger Federer<\/a>, Rafael Nadal<\/a> and Novak Djokovic<\/a> \ufeff- wind down after a dominant era.<\/p>\n

And according to former Australian tennis champion John Fitzgerald, the Spanish sensation has every chance of emulating his heroes over the next decade. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's hard\ufeff to comprehend, when you're a former player, to know how good that is," he said on Stan Sports' Grand Slam Daily.<\/em><\/p>\n

"To be \ufeffthat young and that precocious as a young player, with a body that has developed early enough in your life to be able to handle the stress and strain and physicality of a five-set final like that … he's one out of the box.<\/p>\n

"The three great players we have seen over the last decade and a half, you think that you won't see another one in your lifetime – but maybe we have got one with him.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz is following in the footsteps of his fellow \ufeffSpaniard in Nadal, maintaining a humble approach on and off the court, as evidenced by his emotional celebrations.<\/p>\n

"He's like Rafa – he has got his feet on the ground," Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n

"There's something about the culture there. He knows how good he is, but he's got his feet on the ground and don't you love that?\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Looking at someone who is so good at this art form, to have him be modest enough to keep his feet on the ground and be respectful about the game – that's a huge bonus."<\/p>\n

As for his \ufeffbrilliance and shot-making flair, Fitzgerald believes Alcaraz took a lot from another tennis icon.<\/p>\n

"That's all because he was a Federer fan in his early days – he wanted to play with flair and he can," Fitzgerald said. \ufeff<\/p>\n
