Manly<\/a> coach Anthony Seibold<\/a> has defended Luke Brooks<\/a>' heated exchange with Jarome Luai, claiming he believes an act of foul play occurred to spark the incident. \ufeff<\/p>\n

While Penrith<\/a>'s Liam Henry barged his way over the try line, Luai found himself in the middle of a heated argument with Brooks after being tackled by Manly's Ben Trbojevic.<\/p>\n

The pair were quickly separated by teammates as \ufeffManly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans<\/a> pleaded with referee Gerard Sutton to investigate what prompted Brooks to respond in such an uncharacteristic manner.<\/p>\n

However, his pleas were ignored by Sutton who continued on with the game in which Penrith powered home to victory.<\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters after the match, Seibold and Cherry-Evans said they were unsure what sparked the incident on the field, however, were certain that Brooks was not the instigator. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Brooks is not a renowned scrapper, so obviously something happened," Seibold said.<\/p>\n

Cherry-Evans then interrupted, stating: "I think he saw something there, I think he was looking after his teammates.<\/p>\n

"So you can obviously read into it that you thought he might have got baited, but he obviously saw something there," he said.<\/p>\n

"He was just sticking up for his teammates, I like what he did there. I don't think he gave away a try, I think there was something there."<\/p>\n

Sutton warned both the Manly skipper and Brooks following the incident as they continued to criticise his decision. However, nothing came of the incident as Penrith initiated their comeback coup in front of a home crowd.<\/p>\n

When asked if Henry would have been denied the opportunity to score had Brooks been in the defensive line, the Manly veteran replied: "I'm not sure."<\/p>\n

\ufeffSeibold replied: "We had enough chances, obviously something happened on the floor with Ben Trbojevic so he's sticking up for his teammates.<\/p>\n

"If you really dig down a little bit deeper and look at what happened, Broosky is not a fighter and has been a really fair player for a long time.<\/p>\n
