M\ufeffaroons<\/a> coach Billy Slater<\/a> has provided a positive update on Reece Walsh<\/a>, with the star fullback on the road to recovery after a "sickening" State of Origin<\/a> incident.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old was forced from the field in Wednesday night's series opener after being collected high by Joseph Suaalii<\/a>, landing the NSW debutant in \ufeffhot water.<\/p>\n

Suaalii was sent off by referee Ashley Klein\ufeff and will spend the next four weeks on the sidelines through suspension, while Walsh will miss two games for the Broncos.<\/p>\n

However, according to the legendary fullback and Queensland mentor, Walsh could be back in time for game two as they look to wrap up the series with a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

"I spoke to Reece yesterday actually and he's recovering well from this incident," Slater told Nine's Sunday Footy Show.<\/p>\n

"To be fair, I don't really like watching it too much. He's in good spirits and he will go through the 11-day protocols and he won't play again for the Broncos [before Origin].<\/p>\n

"The good thing is that he is doing OK."<\/p>\n

Given the mandatory stand-down period, Walsh missed Saturday night's club game against the Sharks and will also be out of action for round 15 against the Rabbitohs.<\/p>\n

As for the incident itself, Slater had been rather reserved in the days that followed Queensland's 38-10 win over the Blues, but admitted his "disappointment" and pointed out the impact it could have on kids getting into the sport.<\/p>\n

"We didn't plan for what happened to Reece and I don't think anyone goes into the game planning for that sort of stuff," he said.<\/p>\n

"I honestly don't like watching it too much, it's pretty sickening and it's not good for our game. I can't imagine too many mums and dads would want to throw their kids in the car and take them and sign them up after watching this sort of stuff.<\/p>\n

"I was really disappointed, because I know how hard he [Walsh] prepared for the game and he had great clarity around what his game looked like. He was ready to go after it and that was taken away from him only seven minutes into the contest.<\/p>\n

"I haven't commented on the incident \u2026 I don't think my comments are gonna do the game or any individuals involved in the incident any benefit."\u00a0\ufeff<\/p>\n
