Parramatta Eels<\/a> interim coach Trent Barrett<\/a> has confirmed his interest in the position full time.<\/p>\n

Speaking on 2GB's Continuous Call Team<\/em> on Saturday, Barrett said this experience at Parramatta was "completely different" to elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Barrett has had two previous stints as head coach with Manly<\/a> and then the Bulldogs<\/a>, before moving to the Eels to work under Brad Arthur<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

Sharks great Paul Gallen<\/a> asked Barrett directly if he was interested in the role full time.<\/p>\n

"Yeah," came the reply. "I didn't want to say too much the first few weeks. It's always a hard one when you're very close to the head coach and there's movement there," Barrett said.<\/p>\n

\"Interim<\/p>\n

"But we've all got to move forward as well and it's something that I've really enjoyed.<\/p>\n

"Parramatta is a really good club, it's a very stable club and we've got a good side. I've found this experience completely different to the last two I've had."<\/p>\n

Barrett is believed to be on a shortlist<\/a> alongside Jason Ryles, Michael Cheika, Josh Hannay and Michael Maguire.<\/p>\n

While Ryles is believed to be the favourite, Barrett said he's in the best position to audition.<\/p>\n

"I'm in a good position where I'm there, in the shop window every day with the powers that be," he said.<\/p>\n

"But it's certainly going to help if we can continue winning games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'd love an opportunity to coach them long-term, but that's a little bit out of my control, I suppose.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"If we go out and keep winning, that will help. But, my main focus is the players. I've just got to get them to win this week and prepare them as best we can."<\/p>\n
