Australia\ufeff now has its first winter high-performance training centre and Olympic<\/a> snowboarder Tess Coady says the breakthrough is "game-changing".<\/p>\n

The official opening of the National Snowsports Training Centre (NSTC), a $12.7 million facility, \ufefftook place on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

The centre features \ufeffa state-of-the-art gym, acrobatic equipment, medical and performance health treatment rooms, athlete wellbeing areas and an outside airbag training facility, which provides skiers and snowboarders an opportunity to hone their craft in a safe environment.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt makes a really, really big difference when you're able to train on it [the airbag] during the winter in Australia," Coady, a bronze medallist at Beijing 2022, told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"It's pretty sick to be able to … go on the airbag and learn a trick and perfect it and then go up on the mountain the next day and actually do it.<\/p>\n

"It's huge, it's game-changing and I think it's going to make a really massive difference to the future of the sport for us.<\/p>\n

"The centre all looks really good and it's a really, really great set-up\ufeff, so it's pretty sick that we have it in Jindy. I'm definitely going to try to make good use of it this season."<\/p>\n

During summer, the NSTC is a venue for other high-performance sports, such as rowing, athletics and swimming.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The National Snowsports Training Centre is a project that has been six years in the making and has been a true collaboration between the sport, the government and our principal high-performance partners, the New South Wales Institute of Sport and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia," said Snow Australia chief executive Michael Kennedy.<\/p>\n

"Uniquely, athletes can learn new skills off snow at the National Snowsports Training Centre and then transfer these skills on snow, which is only 30 mins away at the Thredbo and Perisher resorts during the winter months.<\/p>\n

"There is a reason why athletes from all over the world are clambering to come here."<\/p>\n

The official opening of the NSTC follows a spectacular northern hemisphere winter by Australian athletes, which yielded five crystal globes, 18 World Cup victories and 53 World Cup podium performances.<\/p>\n
