Michael Maguire<\/a> has been dealt another major blow with powerhouse back-rower Liam Martin set to race the clock to overcome a ligament injury in his foot to don the Blues jersey in game two of the State of Origin<\/a> series.<\/p>\n

Martin has been scratched from Penrith<\/a>'s clash with Manly<\/a> on Sunday as he recovers from a foot injury which he suffered in the first half of game one on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

NSW medical staff gave the 27-year-old \ufeffa pain-killing injection at half-time to help him power through the remainder of the match.<\/p>\n

According to Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> reporter Michael Chammas, Martin, who is now in a moon boot, is hopeful to return for Penrith's round 15 game against Newcastle<\/a> – but there is no certainty that he will be available to play.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The Newcastle clash will be Martin's last chance to plead his selection case to return in the Blues jersey for Origin II, however, a player of his standing is unlikely to be required to play to return to the squad according to Chammas.<\/p>\n
