Adelaide<\/a> coach Matthew Nicks<\/a> has responded to stunning comments made by his player Josh Rachele<\/a>, who admitted he was concerned about his place in the team.<\/p>\n

Rachele told 9News<\/em> Adelaide<\/em> \ufeffthat he would confront Nicks on his lack of time in the midfield<\/a>, following a goalless performance with only 11 possessions to his name during their 27-point defeat to Hawthorn in round 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After being in the middle for 14 centre bounces against West Coast the week before, Rachele sought some clarity about why he only featured in two against the Hawks.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"We didn't get a lot of inside-50s on the weekend, and I didn't play a lot (in the) midfield again, playing mainly up the ground," Rachele told 9News Adelaide<\/em> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"It's something that I probably don't really know what's going on.<\/p>\n

\"Rachele<\/p>\n

"I'll sit with the coaches and ask questions about 'how can I inject myself in the game?' when I'm not getting too much of the ball."<\/p>\n

Now, Nicks has addressed Rachele's concerns, admitting that the pair hashed it out at the club earlier in the week.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Josh and I had a really good chat this week," Nicks said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"Off the back of poor performance, sometimes, as a team, what can happen is some frustration, and we've worked our way through that."<\/p>\n

As for how the 21-year-old star took the conversation, Nicks was full of praise.<\/p>\n

"He's been fantastic. He's been really fantastic," he said.<\/p>\n

It comes as Crows chairman John Olsen backed the club's decision to re-sign Nicks on a two-year contract extension after round one.<\/p>\n

Adelaide sit in 14th on the ladder with a 4-7 record after 12 rounds.<\/p>\n

Despite losing to the Suns in round one by six points, the club won't back down from the call to keep him on board for at least another two seasons.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We believed at the time, and still do, that Matthew Nicks is the right coach for the Adelaide Football Club currently," Olsen said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"And we have no issue with extending his contract for the two years.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\"Matthew<\/p>\n

"We want to give him the best possible chance to bring this young squad up to consistently perform well at AFL level.<\/p>\n

"And I hope that you will see a response this Thursday from last week and then we'll take each game as it comes over the course of the rest of the season."<\/p>\n
