Maroons<\/a> coach Billy Slater<\/a> has taken aim at critics of Selwyn Cobbo's selection<\/a> as he declares the decision will not derail Queensland's State of Origin campaign.<\/p>\n

Paul Vautin<\/a> flamed Slater's choice to put Cobbo on the bench as he fears the two-time Origin-winning coach has risked placing the Maroons into a vulnerable position for the series opener at Accor Stadium on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The \ufeffQueensland legend declared that the Origin arena is generally dominated by forwards<\/a>, with the current formation of Slater's bench lacking the opportunity to inject another powerhouse unit into the game.<\/p>\n

Cobbo, who is a utility back, made his Origin debut in 2022, however, failed to feature in the final two games of the 2023 series due to injury.<\/p>\n

Despite showcasing his versatility on the field this season, making the transition from the wing to the centres, while also admirably filling in at fullback when Broncos ace Reece Walsh was injured, Slater remained confident in his decisions.<\/p>\n

When asked about Vautin's comments, Slater delivered a blunt response.<\/p>\n

"I've spent a lot of timing doing it and I know that \ufeffI've spent more time watching our Queenslanders, more than any other person," he said.<\/p>\n
