Esteban Ocon<\/a> and Alpine<\/a> have agreed to part ways at the end of the 2024 season, opening the door for Australian Jack Doohan<\/a> to join the F1<\/a> grid.<\/p>\n

Doohan is the team's reserve driver and has been rumoured to be among the favourites to fill the vacancy.<\/p>\n

Another name in the mix is Mick Schumacher<\/a>, who is part of Alpine's program in the FIA World Endurance Championship.<\/p>\n

The son of seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher<\/a> raced with Haas in 2021 and 2022 and was a reserve driver for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo before that.<\/p>\n

Schumacher also has ties to Mercedes and McLaren, having been a contracted reserve driver in 2023 before joining the World Endurance Championship.<\/p>\n

Ocon's split with Alpine ends a five-year relationship with the team that brought them one win at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021.<\/p>\n

To date, Ocon has a total of three podiums with the team in Bahrain and Monaco.<\/p>\n

"It's been a significant period of my life to be racing at this team in Formula 1," said Ocon.<\/p>\n

"While I've been here for five years as a full-time racing driver, my professional career started at Enstone back when I was a teenager, so it will always be a special place for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We have had some great moments together, some tough moments as well, and I am certainly grateful to everyone at the team for these memorable times.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I will announce my plans very soon but, in the meantime, my full focus is on delivering on track for this team and having a successful remainder of the season."<\/p>\n

Alpine team principal Bruno Famin thanked Ocon for his contribution.<\/p>\n

"We would like to firstly thank Esteban for his commitment to the team for the past five years," said Famin.<\/p>\n

"During his time, we have celebrated some fantastic moments together, the best of which coming at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix with a memorable race win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We still have 16 races to complete in 2024 together with a clear objective: to continue to work tirelessly as a team to push for the best on-track results.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We wish Esteban the very best for the next chapter of his driving career when that moment comes."<\/p>\n

Where Ocon will end up in 2025 remains unclear, although his experience would make him a viable candidate for any team with a vacancy. Ocon is managed by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old came under fire at the Monaco Grand Prix for crashing into his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ocon received a swathe of vitriolic messages in the wake of the incident and took to social media to call out the reaction.<\/p>\n

Rumours quickly circulated that Ocon could be benched for the Canadian Grand Prix<\/a>, but Ocon put that speculation to bed quickly.<\/p>\n

Just days later, and Alpine confirmed the impending split at the season's end.<\/p>\n
