A\ufeff promising England<\/a> fast bowler has been banned for placing bets on cricket<\/a> matches.<\/p>\n

Brydon Carse, 28, has been hit with a 16-month suspension by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)\ufeff.<\/p>\n

With 13 months suspended it means Carse will be able to return to the field after August 28.<\/p>\n

It does, though, rule him out of England's Test tour of the West Indies.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCarse was a chance of breaking into the Test team following the retirements of Stuart Broad and James Anderson, as well as ongoing injuries to Jofra Archer.<\/p>\n

The newly formed Cricket Regulator found Carse placed 303 bets on matches between 2017 and 2019.<\/p>\n

While he didn't play in any of the matches he admitted to betting on, he did bet on games involving his club side Durham.<\/p>\n

"We take these matters extremely seriously and do not condone any form of anti-corruption breach in cricket," an ECB statement said.<\/p>\n

"We support the Cricket Regulator's decision and their consideration of the mitigating factors in Brydon's case.<\/p>\n

"He has co-operated and shown remorse for his actions. We are satisfied that Brydon has shown growth in the five years since this breach and has demonstrated a greater understanding of his responsibilities.<\/p>\n

"We are hopeful that his case can serve as an educational example for other cricketers."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Carse has played 17 white-ball matches for England and was called up to the ODI World Cup squad last year.<\/p>\n

He was rewarded with a two-year ECB contract, which the governing body confirmed will remain in place despite the suspension.\ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
