Melbourne<\/a> coach Simon Goodwin<\/a> refused to hold back when addressing his side's dismal 92-point smashing at the hands of Fremantle<\/a> on Sunday in Alice Springs.\ufeff<\/p>\n

It's Melbourne's third loss in four games\ufeff and also the heaviest defeat in Goodwin's time at the helm.<\/p>\n

The Demons were smashed in every aspect of the ground, highlighted in their 68-37 inside 50 loss.<\/p>\n

What was completely unlike Melbourne, was their breakdown through the midfield, despite having some of the modern greats making up their centre group.<\/p>\n

The Demons lost clearances 48 to 23, as young Dockers midfielder Caleb Serong collected 27 disposals and an impressive eight clearances.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Fremantle defender Jordan Clark collected a whopping 36 touches, while his forward teammates had a day out, sharing in a mammoth 22 goals.<\/p>\n

Jye Amiss led the way with four majors to his name.<\/p>\n

But on the other end of the spectrum, the Demons will head back to Melbourne scratching their heads and wondering how it all went so wrong.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"As bad a performance as you can get," Goodwin said in his post match press conference.<\/p>\n

"There's inconsistencies in our game. That trend has been there for a little while now.<\/p>\n

"We understand there's elements within our method that aren't right\ufeff.<\/p>\n

"But inconsistencies from week to week are \ufeffconcerning."<\/p>\n

Goodwin was adamant that the loss was a one-off, as his side now slip outside the top eight into 10th on the ladder.<\/p>\n

"We'll look into the why, because that performance is clearly, completely unacceptable in where we want to be as a team,"<\/p>\n

The Demons 2021 premiership coach says his side will fight for finals credibility, lamenting their "unacceptable" game.<\/p>\n

"When you lose by the margin we lost by, that's unacceptable as a footy club.<\/p>\n

"That (result) certainly hasn't happened a lot in my time\ufeff in being here.<\/p>\n

"We have a proud group that will be looking to respond pretty fiercely.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The Dockers now sit in seventh on the ladder with a 7-4-1 record, knocking the Demons right out of the top eight.<\/p>\n

Melbourne now\ufeff sit with a 7-5 record.<\/p>\n
