Roosters<\/a> coach Trent Robinson has refused to blame the late scratching of James Tedesco<\/a> for his side's defeat against the Cowboys<\/a>, claiming the side wilted under pressure.<\/p>\n

With a host of representative players unavailable due to State of Origin<\/a> duties, it was the understated visitors who came out on top with an exhilarating 18-16 victory.<\/p>\n

The Bondi-based club gained an early lead in the first half with a margin of 10 into half time, but with \ufefffullback Scott Drinkwater engineering a victory for the visitors late in the game.<\/p>\n

The Roosters had a number of chances to runaway with the game but were unable to execute their attacking efforts, with coach Robinson claiming the standard of play was "not good enough."<\/p>\n

"That's a game we needed to win 16-12," Robinson said.<\/p>\n

"If you're hard enough you'll go 'OK, we're missing some opportunities but we'll hold in there, get some field position back, and win a game' and you go into the top four.<\/p>\n

"We just couldn't get enough energy from the guys, some poor leaked tries and you lose the game.<\/p>\n

"I expect us to be a team that can adapt but we just didn't nail that today.<\/p>\n

"Our spine wasn't good enough as a whole, along with other players."<\/p>\n

\ufeffTedesco was recalled into the NSW Blues team after Penrith's Dylan Edwards suffered a quad injury during training<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Robinson named Joey Manu<\/a> as his replacement.<\/p>\n

"Joey didn't have his best night tonight," Robinson said of Manu's performance.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffHe was way off what his quality is. He's usually not like that."<\/p>\n

"It was a hard one. When Madge called yesterday, we had to go through all the changes that were going to happen to [our] team," Robinson said.<\/p>\n

"But the simplicity of it was \ufeffthat we were happy for James. We all felt for him this week – obviously, Dylan deserved his spot.<\/p>\n

"[James] has been playing \ufeffsome outstanding footy.<\/p>\n

"You want [your] players to be able to play in Origin\ufeff. In the end, the overriding thing was that he is desperate to play any kind of representative footy that he can.<\/p>\n

"He loves playing and loves putting on the Blues jersey and the Australian jumper.<\/p>\n

"The overriding emotion was great and I can't wait to watch him play on Wednesday."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Luke Keary<\/a> confirmed that he will not be taking to the field for the series opener despite concerns about Blues halfback Nicho Hynes<\/a>' lingering calf issues.<\/a><\/p>\n

The outgoing Roosters veteran\ufeff said he was devastated to learn the news about Edwards, however, was "proud" of Tedesco's resilience.<\/p>\n

"I\ufefft's obviously very disappointing for Dyl [Edwards], but it's a good thing for Teddy [Tedesco]," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI know how much that jersey means for him … so it will be good to see him get back in there. \ufeffHe will make everyone proud.<\/p>\n
