Talk about an all-time grand finale.<\/p>\n

On Saturday evening, the Texas State 6A softball state championship game saw Weslaco High School trail 9-3 and down to their final chance to win the title in the bottom of the seventh.<\/p>\n

They closed the deficit against Waco Midway to 9-7 when Andrea Ortiz, a sophomore, stepped into the batter’s box with the bases loaded, and she delivered.<\/p>\n

The game-winning grand slam gave the Lady Panthers an 11-9 victory and the state title. That would be an eight-run rally to win a championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end we just told the girls give yourself a chance, keep fighting, keep fighting,\u201d Weslaco High head coach Mario Rodriguez said at McCombs Field in Austin<\/a>. \u201cWe knew they had a powerhouse over there and we were just trying to slow them down a little bit. I did not know if we could stop them, but we were going to slow them down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ortiz was confident stepping up to the plate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI<\/span>\u00a0knew<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0had<\/span>\u00a0it,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Ortiz<\/span>\u00a0said.<\/span>\u00a0\u201cI<\/span>\u00a0told<\/span>\u00a0my<\/span>\u00a0coach<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0told<\/span>\u00a0everybody<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0got<\/span>\u00a0you<\/span>\u00a0guys,<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0got<\/span>\u00a0you<\/span>\u00a0guys.<\/span>\u00a0Our<\/span>\u00a0saying<\/span>\u00a0is,<\/span>\u00a0\u2018we<\/span>\u00a0got<\/span>\u00a0our<\/span>\u00a0backs\u2019<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0knew<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0had<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0come<\/span>\u00a0through<\/span>\u00a0for<\/span>\u00a0my<\/span>\u00a0team.<\/span>\u00a0So,<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0believed<\/span>\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0myself<\/span>\u00a0as<\/span>\u00a0much<\/span>\u00a0as<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0could<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0came<\/span>\u00a0through.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
