Matthew Lloyd<\/a> has expressed his discomfort at both Harley Reid<\/a> and Sam Darcy<\/a> likely being rubbed out of Rising Star contention due to suspensions.\ufeff<\/p>\n

It comes after young Eagles star Reid landed in hot water for a sling tackle against St Kilda's Darcy Wilson<\/a> on Saturday at Optus Stadium.<\/p>\n

Reid grabbed Wilson's jumper and slung him to the ground in the third term, with the young Saint looking in pain after the incident.<\/p>\n

The sling cost Reid a free kick, bit could be much more catastrophic if he is indeed handed a suspension., making him ineligible to win the Rising Star award.<\/p>\n

Lloyd looked at Reid's incident alongside another potential Rising Star winner, Bulldog Sam Darcy\ufeff, who was also cited and handed a two-week suspension for a late bump on Magpie Brayden Maynard<\/a> on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Darcy's act was graded as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.<\/p>\n

The bump occurred early in the first term at Marvel Stadium, with Darcy jumping into Maynard's back as he took a mark just outside Collingwood's forward 50.<\/p>\n

Maynard received a free kick and slotted a goal as a result, but took some time to recover and get up from the turf.<\/p>\n

After Maynard went back to slot the goal, he was quickly forced off the ground to undertake a SCAT5 concussion test.<\/p>\n

\"Darcy<\/p>\n

The Pies defender eventually returned to the bench after passing his HIA.<\/p>\n

It's a cruel blow for the young Dogs forward, who went on to kicked the sealer to give the Dogs an 18-point victory.<\/p>\n

Darcy kicked three goals for the game and had 12 disposals.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffNow, Lloyd has heaped praise on the young midfielder and forward, urging them to keep their ferocity up, despite likely losing out on the Rising Star.<\/p>\n

"Unfortunately we lose the two best young players to the Rising Star," Lloyd said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

"But it's what makes them both so good. Darcy has an intent about him that not many young forwards I've ever seen at that age have.<\/p>\n

"Harley Reid didn't like the way he was going and wanted to do something about it. That's what you like to see in a player, that he wants to do something.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

"It's going to be a disappointment for the award, but these guys will be fine (in the long term).\ufeff"<\/p>\n

After Lloyd's evident disappointment, Kane Cornes posed the question of changing the way the award is judged.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Do we need to remove the fairness element of the Rising Star?," Cornes asked.<\/p>\n

"Particularly now with so many suspensions that we are getting, that we wouldn't have got, five-six years ago.<\/p>\n

\"Sam<\/p>\n

"These two players are ineligible."<\/p>\n

Cornes expressed his fears about how the Rising Star winner will look on the night he is crowned.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's going to be a bit farcical on the night when one of them don't win it, because of a week suspension probably for Harley Reid," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

Cornes suggested a different way to judge the award going forward.<\/p>\n

\"Lloyd<\/p>\n

"Maybe we have a threshold\ufeff, maybe if you've been suspended for four weeks, then that triggers the threshold," he said.<\/p>\n

"If it's just one (week) like that, then you should be (still eligible)."<\/p>\n

Reid's act was out of frustration, after he was limited to just five touches after the first half, when Ross Lyon threw Marcus Windhager on him as a tag.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Nathan Brown\ufeff lamented Reid's brain fade.<\/p>\n

"He'd be disappointed because he knows how frustrated he was," he said.<\/p>\n

"He hadn't impacted the game in the third quarter, he'd been tagged by (Marcus) Windhanger.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Unfortunately the way it is at the moment, last year I think he gets away with it, but this year, I think he gets a week."<\/p>\n

Despite the reaction from Cornes and Brown, Eagles coach Adam\ufeff Simpson blatantly defended Reid's sling tackle post their 14-point loss to St Kilda.<\/p>\n

\"Darcy<\/p>\n

"If you want to free up restrictions around comments about tribunal and umpires, then we can have a good conversation," Simpson said.<\/p>\n

"But, I'm restricted a little bit.<\/p>\n

"I thought there was nothing in it, is what I'll say."<\/p>\n

The Eagles will likely be without Reid when \ufeffface off against North Melbourne in round 13.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
