Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> insists his focus is on his "week in, week out" struggles, as opposed to whether or not he'll be on the F1<\/a> grid next season.<\/p>\n

Speculation surrounding the Aussie's future on the grid has been rampant for much of May, with some suggesting he could lose his seat to Kiwi reserve driver Liam Lawson, perhaps even before the end of the season.<\/p>\n

His RB<\/a> team's chief executive Peter Bayer has thrown his support behind Ricciardo, saying ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix<\/a> he was happy with the team's lineup, and rubbished any talk of a mid-season shuffle.<\/p>\n

But speaking to motorsport.com, Ricciardo said he still wasn't happy with the gaps to teammate Yuki Tsunoda, particularly in qualifying.<\/p>\n

"The gap [to Tsunoda], maybe we do find something that [explains] why I lost a bit here or there," he said.<\/p>\n

"There'll probably always be something \u2013 this is F1 and it's never perfect.<\/p>\n

"I'm not happy with having these gaps. I think that's what's frustrating me a bit. Obviously the team has been great and they've been really supportive and obviously they know I can do it.<\/p>\n

"But it's been a bit more of a struggle this year to do it week in, week out, and that's really where my focus is now as opposed to getting too comfortable or excited about what the future holds.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I want to be doing better, whether that's the car or me."<\/p>\n

Ricciardo struggled early in the season, and was given a fresh chassis for the Chinese Grand Prix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Aussie saw an immediate lift in performance, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race.<\/p>\n

But he has yet to finish in the points on Sunday \u2013 something Tsunoda has managed five times, including in each of the last three races in Miami, Imola and Monaco.<\/p>\n

He started the season in the frame for a recall to the senior Red Bull team alongside Max Verstappen. That promotion is now almost no chance.<\/p>\n

Ricciardo's next chance to score points will come in the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal next Monday morning (AEST).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
