Mitchell Moses<\/a>\ufeff has inspired Parramatta<\/a> to a crucial victory over Cronulla<\/a>, producing an "absolute class" performance on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old star halfback had been sidelined for over two months with a broken foot and the Eels had struggled without him steering the ship, dropping down the NRL ladder.<\/p>\n

But with Moses and skipper Clint Gutherson<\/a> both back on deck against the Sharks, the blue and gold outfit recorded a 34-22 win at CommBank Stadium.<\/p>\n

Moses set up a try and record a mammoth 600 kick metres in a trademark display.<\/p>\n

After missing out on NSW Blues<\/a> selection due to his injury absence, it was a timely reminder to new coach Michael Maguire<\/a> upon his return.<\/p>\n

"If only he had made his return last week, he would have been in Katoomba [in Blues camp] watching this game," Phil Gould said during the Nine broadcast.<\/p>\n

"I'm quite sure that had Mitchell Moses played last weekend and put in a performance like this, he could well be in Katoomba tonight as the NSW halfback."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Cronulla opened the scoring early after an uncharacteristic error from the returning Gutherson but the hosts took control soon after with three-straight tries.<\/p>\n

Maika Sivo crossed for a first-half double, powering over Will Kennedy as the Eels flexed the attacking muscle that had been missing in Moses' absence.<\/p>\n

"That was slick … it was like a training gallop,"\ufeff Andrew Johns said on Nine.<\/p>\n

At one stage in the opening 40 minutes, Parramatta was in complete control, prompting commentator Gould to claim it was "men against boys".<\/p>\n

The contest was turned on its head before half-time when Kennedy and Ronaldo Mulitalo combined for a long-range effort to narrow the margin.<\/p>\n

After the break, some resilient defence from the Eels resulted in them going up the other end of the field to score, with Junior Paulo barging over from close range.<\/p>\n

The front-rower bulldozed past five would-be defenders as the Sharks struggled to stop the axed Origin star. \ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffMoses put a further stamp on the game in the 57th minute, splitting open the Cronulla defence and setting up Bailey Simonsson to score and extend the Eels' lead.<\/p>\n

"That is absolute class," Johns said.<\/p>\n

Daniel Atkinson and Sione Katoa \ufeffgave the visitors a glimmer of hope heading into the final 15 minutes, with the latter crossing for a double in his milestone 100th NRL appearance, but it wasn't enough to stop the Eels assault.<\/p>\n

Dylan Brown put the icing on the cake with a lovely solo try in the 70th minute, giving interim coach Trent Barrett his first victory since taking over from Brad Arthur.<\/p>\n

"They've been a different team tonight Parramatta … they'd beat a lot of teams the way they've played tonight," Johns said before the full-time siren.<\/p>\n

"Mitchell Moses, what a performance. He was supposed to be out for 12 weeks."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Speaking post-game on Nine, the playmaker admitted he was tempted to come back from his injury early to stake a claim for an Origin jumper, but conceded the most important objective was getting back on the field for his club side. <\/p>\n

"I tried two weeks earlier, but I just didn't pull up right," Moses said. <\/p>\n

"I couldn't go out on the field and let the boys down. I tried to come back early enough, I gave it every chance and tried my best.<\/p>\n

"We were probably a bit rusty, we've got to be a bit better there to close out the game. <\/p>\n

"We just needed the two points, we were desperate tonight and I thought we were good in patches – defensively we've got to be a bit better."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
