Any faint hopes F1<\/a> fans might have had of Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> returning to Red Bull<\/a> in 2025 look to have been dashed.<\/p>\n

Red Bull looks set to retain an identical driver line-up next year amid reports Sergio Perez<\/a> is on the verge of signing a contract extension.<\/p>\n

That's despite a horror Monaco Grand Prix<\/a> that resulted in a $4.9 million damage bill after Perez was involved in a three-car pile-up on the opening lap<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Motorsport Total, The Race, and Motorsport.com all report Perez is about to re-sign with Red Bull.<\/p>\n

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said they hope to have a clearer picture by the Spanish Grand Prix on June 23.<\/p>\n

"I think by Barcelona we should have a clear picture," he told Motorsport.com.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I would say we should have a clear idea ourselves by then."<\/p>\n

Asked if Perez was the favourite for the seat, Marko replied, "He is in a good position. I wouldn't say pole-position, but he is in a good position."<\/p>\n

Perez has been solid if unspectacular this year. He slid from third to fifth in the drivers' championship after Monaco but has otherwise been towards the front.<\/p>\n

Perez has so far finished four of the eight races this season on the podium but remains winless. Teammate Max Verstappen has five wins.<\/p>\n

Outside of his Monaco shocker, Perez's worst result is eighth in Shanghai. He was fifth in Melbourne and fourth in Miami.<\/p>\n

Outgoing Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz reportedly approached Red Bull but he was knocked back.<\/p>\n

That's despite Sainz being a race winner with Ferrari this year.<\/p>\n

Keeping Perez would keep to peace to a certain extent. The 34-year-old has not posed a regular threat to Verstappen as the number one driver.<\/p>\n

At a time when Red Bull has been destabilised by Adrian Newey's departure and controversies surrounding Christian Horner, rocking the boat some more might not have been seen as favourable to retaining their place as constructors' championship winners.<\/p>\n

Reports over the Monaco weekend indicate Sainz is in talks with Williams and the soon-to-be-rebranded Audi team.<\/p>\n

Despite the tough Monaco weekend in which Perez qualified a lowly 18th, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner instilled some faith in the Mexican driver.<\/p>\n

"This weekend's been pretty brutal for him," said Horner.<\/p>\n

"Obviously we need to make sure that we have got both cars up there scoring points because we cannot dismiss the threat of Ferrari and McLaren in both championships.<\/p>\n

"Checo's first six races, he was very strong, qualifying on the front row and finishing second and third and scoring very well.<\/p>\n

"We just need to get back into that position of confidence and not to see a dip."<\/p>\n

Despite the rough run of form for Perez, Horner said recent results wouldn't impact the timing of their decision.<\/p>\n

"[We] will make a decision in the fullness of time," he added.<\/p>\n

After reports came and went that Ricciardo could be deposed by RB before the Miami Grand Prix, there has been little said about the Australian's future at the team.<\/p>\n

He continues to trail teammate Yuki Tsunoda by a significant enough margin not to be considered for the second Red Bull seat alongside Verstappen.<\/p>\n

Tsunoda was also not a serious consideration for the Perez seat.<\/p>\n

Ricciardo has yet to score points in a grand prix. His only points came in Miami when he netted fourth in the sprint.<\/p>\n

Tsunoda has visited the top 10 in five of eight grands prix to date. He sits 10th in the drivers' championship while Ricciardo is 14th.<\/p>\n
