Rebels<\/a> prop Taniela Tupou<\/a> has received a warning for his cleanout on Brumbies<\/a> lock Darcy Swain in their round 14 Super Rugby Pacific<\/a> clash.<\/p>\n

Tupou drew the ire of SANZAAR for the hit in the 65th minute which left Swain writhing in pain on the ground.<\/p>\n

The Foul Play Review Committee said the incident was close to meeting the red card threshold and warned the Wallabies star for it.<\/p>\n

"With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a warning as it was close to, but did not reach the red card threshold," a SANZAAR statement read in part.<\/p>\n

"Fortunately, no head contact or significant injury resulted from the incident. Had there been head contact and\/or a more severe injury, the outcome may well have been a different one for the player."<\/p>\n

Wallabies legend Tim Horan spoke post-match of the incident that he said typified the Rebels season.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne-based club has had its season overshadowed by financial instability and the threat of being folded.<\/p>\n

"(There's) nothing wrong with it but it's the frustration," said Horan on Stan Sport's post-match coverage.<\/p>\n

"This is nothing against Taniela Tupou, it's the frustration. Both are on Wallaby teammates, and you don't know that at the time when you're cleaning out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's the frustration on the field but also off the field for the Rebels that's coming through.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Taniela Tupou, he's had a disjointed season because of some injuries he's had to himself as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Sera (Naiqama) and I both saw it on the side and thought, 'Gee, they're massive cleanouts' and that just typifies the Rebels season, those two incidents there."<\/p>\n

Tupou is free to play for the Rebels when they face the Fijian Drua in Lautoka.<\/p>\n

Naiqama added, "One, he comes off the bench so you expect him to be clean, to be clinical, to execute his role, and those brain snaps you can't help but interpret it as frustration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"What's most important for him is they have another opportunity next week against Drua. They can't afford to do that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
