T\ufeffom Dearden<\/a> has the unenviable job of replacing Cameron Munster<\/a> next week – but the message to the Cowboys<\/a> star couldn't be any clearer.<\/p>\n

After starring on State of Origin debut in 2022 as a last-minute replacement for Munster due to illness, Dearden is back in the Maroons<\/a> jumper again for the series opener after the Melbourne five-eighth succumbed to a groin injury at Magic Round.<\/p>\n

Dearden won the race to wear the No.6 jumper after holding off excitement machine Ezra Mam and is now set to take the field for his state at Accor Stadium on June 5.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old will partner captain Daly Cherry-Evans<\/a> in the halves and speaking on Nine's 100% Footy<\/em>, the experienced Origin star hopes Dearden doesn't try to emulate the man he is replacing against the Blues.<\/p>\n

"We've only had that one game together, Tommy and I, but he has been in camp before on numerous occasions," he said.<\/p>\n

"We've got a really good understanding of what gets each other playing good footy. We want to complement each other as halves and we also want to make sure that as halves, we are directing the team around and getting our job done there.<\/p>\n

"He's not Cam and he doesn't have to be Cam – but if he comes in and plays to his strengths [he will play well].<\/p>\n

"He's been playing some really good footy, not just this year, but the past couple of years, and I'm really happy to see him back in the arena."<\/p>\n

Dearden is certainly a different player than Munster, who has dominated at this level for many years, but his previous experience alongside Cherry-Evans will benefit him.<\/p>\n
