N\ufeffSW<\/a> fullback Dylan Edwards<\/a> has revealed the man he replaced – James Tedesco<\/a> – was one of the first to reach out and congratulate him in a classy move.<\/p>\n

In a bombshell decision from new coach Michael Maguire<\/a>, the incumbent captain was axed for the series opener, with Edwards taking his place in the No.1 jumper.<\/p>\n

Tedesco had been a mainstay of the Blues team for over half a decade, cementing himself as one of the state's all-time greats with stellar performances at State of Origin level in the 2018 and 2019 series.<\/p>\n

However, the changing of the guard under Maguire prompted a change on the field as well, with three-time premiership winner Edwards earning a spot at the back.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Monday from NSW camp, the 28-year-old revealed the nice touch from Tedesco after the news broke of his omission for the June 5 clash.<\/p>\n

"He sent me a message – he was one of the first blokes to send me a message, which was all class and I expect nothing less from him," Edwards revealed.<\/p>\n

"He just said congratulations and to enjoy the week and Origin footy is the best.<\/p>\n

"I've played in quite a few big games in club land [with Penrith], so that puts you in good stead for this sort of arena."<\/p>\n

Edwards has been banging on the door for the past few years, helping the Panthers become a premiership force and winning the Clive Churchill Medal in 2022.<\/p>\n

Tedesco on the other hand found himself in under pressure in last year's Origin series and despite a strong start to the season with the Roosters, it wasn't enough to tempt Maguire into sticking solid for NSW.<\/p>\n

Speaking to 9News<\/em> Sydney, former captain and teammate Boyd Cordner<\/a> backed the Chooks fullback to bounce \ufeffback and force his way back into the rep arena.<\/p>\n

"Teddy is a champion – it's as simple as that," the former Blues skipper said.<\/p>\n

"He is one of the best players in our game and he'll be hurting, I know how much this jersey means to him. I know the relationships he has with the boys in the team and with Jakey and he'll be nothing but happy for them.<\/p>\n

"Teddy will be turning up for sure, he will be doing everything he can for the Roosters and making them successful.<\/p>\n
