Junior Paulo<\/a> has admitted it was "a bit of a shock" when Brad Arthur<\/a> was sacked as coach, with the Parramatta Eels<\/a> left reeling after a dark week for the club.<\/p>\n

Following a horror second-half capitulation against the Storm at Magic Round last Sunday, the side went into round 13 with a new coach after Arthur was dumped on Monday afternoon and replaced by Trent Barrett<\/a> on an interim basis.<\/p>\n

Despite some strong signs against the last-placed Rabbitohs<\/a>, the off-field distractions and continued run of losses hindered the Eels, who fell 42-26 on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Speaking in the post-game press conference, Paulo conceded there was little the squad could have done to change the outcome regarding Arthur, but had hoped to put in a more well-rounded display against the Bunnies.<\/p>\n

"It was a bit of a shock," the front-rower said.<\/p>\n

"The reality is we can't do anything about it, it's a decision that was made and for us, we had to just get on with our done.<\/p>\n

"It was always going to be hard moving on from it, but everyone got around Brad and he was in good spirits after what had happened. We've got to be able to move on quicker \u2026 we can't change anything that's happened now.<\/p>\n

"The damage was done early – we scored enough points to win a game of rugby league, but we've got to be able to stop 42 points being scored against us."\u00a0\ufeff<\/p>\n

South Sydney flew out to an early lead, scoring the first four tries of the match, but allowed the blue and gold outfit back into the contest before the break.<\/p>\n

Latrell Mitchell's trip to the sin bin<\/a> looked to have swung the momentum, but the Bunnies were able to wrangle the game back in their favour in the second half.<\/p>\n

Five-eighth Dylan Brown<\/a> was shattered post-game as he reflected on a difficult week for the Eels, who are still searching for a complete effort.<\/p>\n

"We were trying to look for a response from a disappointing week and there was glimpses of it – but we are struggling to find a full 80 minutes," he told Fox League.<\/p>\n

"No one has dwelled on it, you've got to move on. It's obviously disappointing we lost Brad, but the only thing we can do is come out and perform. The vibe is still good honestly, we still believe in ourselves, but the results just aren't showing it.<\/p>\n

"We can't blame injuries for it – we're an NRL team, we've got a squad there and it's not up to one or two players. As a leadership group, we've got to step up and perform and we just need some momentum. We're struggling to gain confidence into each game.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

While their struggles have been well-documented over the past week, there may finally be some light at the end of the tunnel for Parramatta moving forward.<\/p>\n

Mitchell Moses<\/a> and Clint Gutherson<\/a> are both closing in on returns, while gun centre Will Penisini is expected back after missing Saturday night's defeat.<\/p>\n

Moses was initially in contention for a State of Origin spot, but given his lengthy absence with a broken foot, appears unlikely to be selected.<\/p>\n

"I'd never want to rule anyone out, that's not my call," interim coach Barrett said.<\/p>\n

"But it would be a big ask given the injury that Mitch had, it was pretty significant. He's got a plate in his foot and hasn't really completed a full week of training yet.<\/p>\n

"To throw him into that would be a big ask, but Mitch is a terrific player and I'm not sure what they'll do. That's unfortunate for NSW, we've had a lot of injuries.\ufeff"<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
