R\ufeffichmond<\/a> coach Adem Yze has admitted he has been "copping it" in his job after the Tigers' dismal 1-9 start to his debut year at the top.<\/p>\n

Yze took over from Damien Hardwick, who left the Tigers in mid-May of 2023, citing a burnout.<\/p>\n

Hardwick then joined the Gold Coast Suns as their coach months later.<\/p>\n

It left a spot open for Yze at the top, who left his assistant role at Melbourne to lead a Richmond side coming off a successful stint at the top, headlined by three premierships in four years.<\/p>\n

But, his time at Punt Road has been far from the fairytale that Hardwick left behind.<\/p>\n

With just one win coming against Sydney in round three, Yze's side has been slipping further and further from grace as the year carries on.<\/p>\n

Their first few matches saw them drop games to Carlton by five points, the Giants by 28 and the Eagles by 39.<\/p>\n

Flashforward and they've now suffered thumpings to the Bulldogs by 91 points and the Lions by 119.<\/p>\n

Richmond's injury list has been unprecedented in 2024, highlighted by the recent ACL rupture to luckless ruckman Sam Naismith.\ufeff<\/p>\n

But Yze believes the early challenges will make him a stronger leader as his tenure continues.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We're dealing with a lot of things, not just the way we're playing, we're dealing with players and injury \u2026 hopefully (my coaching) will be better for it in the long run," he said.<\/p>\n

Despite the painful start to his senior coaching career, Yze has lauded the support Richmond has afforded him.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I've got amazing support around me with (football boss) Tim Livingstone, (list boss) Blair Hartley and older (assistant) coaches," he said.<\/p>\n

It comes as the Tigers prepare to farewell CEO \ufeffBrendon Gale at the end of the season, as he departs to take over as the AFL's 19th team, the Tasmania Devils' CEO.<\/p>\n

Meantime, Matthew Lloyd<\/a> has called on Richmond to "tap in" and booster veteran Dustin Martin<\/a>'s confidence ahead of game 300.<\/p>\n

It comes as it was discovered that Martin will not conduct any interviews ahead of his 300th AFL game<\/a> for Richmond.\ufeff<\/p>\n

It's been a difficult year for the 32-year-old, with his mega nine-year contract coming to an end as his future in the game comes under the microscope.\ufeff\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Rather than celebrating what is to come, he's just been under siege, moreso than I've ever seen in his career before," Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The Essendon great is urging the Tigers to utilise their next game, Dreamtime at the 'G against Essendon on Saturday night, to reignite his passion for the game as he inches closer to game 300. He has currently played 297.<\/p>\n
