A stunning defensive effort in the dying moments has helped Manly<\/a> defeat the Storm<\/a> and snap a three-game losing streak.<\/p>\n

The Sea Eagles led the whole way, but when the Storm scored with a touch over five minutes to play to cut the lead to six, they were in with a sniff.<\/p>\n

In fact, after that try, Manly would only briefly get the ball again, but they muscled up in defence to withstand four back-to-back sets to clinch a 26-20 win.<\/a><\/p>\n

"Wasn't perfect by the Sea Eagles, but boy were they brave," Billy Slater quipped in commentary for Nine.<\/p>\n

"That was some sort of win."<\/p>\n

It was a scrappy affair at Brookvale Oval. Neither side were able to really stamp their authority in the first half, which was riddled with handling errors.<\/p>\n

The Storm in particular were far from their best, and completed just six of their first 12 sets.<\/p>\n

One particular error, a shoddy pass from Tui Kamikamica to Christian Welch spilled had Craig Bellamy fuming in the box.<\/p>\n

"That's the basic fundamentals of catch and pass, the ball's gotta be in front," Andrew Johns said in commentary for Nine.<\/p>\n

"Not up to NRL standard."<\/p>\n

But they steadied, and even scored a try in the dying minutes of the first half to trail by only six at the break.<\/p>\n

The second half started with a penalty from the kickoff, which triggered a minor scuffle in the middle of the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two sides went try-for-try in the second half, although Luke Brooks bombed one in the 74th minute that would have brought the Sea Eagles some extra breathing room.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Nine's Danika Mason after the match, Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans said it was a win his side "desperately needed".<\/p>\n

"Against good opposition in Melbourne, it's so nice to beat them here at Brookie," he said.<\/p>\n

"We've got so much respect for them, their coach and players. To beat them tonight was really good.<\/p>\n

The Sea Eagles are one of seven clubs with a week off next week, before taking on the Panthers after Origin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
