Matthew Lloyd<\/a> has called on Richmond<\/a> to "tap in" and booster veteran Dustin Martin<\/a>'s confidence ahead of game 300.<\/p>\n

It comes as it was discovered that Martin will not conduct any interviews ahead of his 300th AFL game<\/a> for Richmond.\ufeff<\/p>\n

It's been a difficult year for the 32-year-old, with his mega nine-year contract coming to an end as his future in the game comes under the microscope.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Now, Lloyd has declared Martin's 2024 season has become "sad"\ufeff, as he looks a shadow of the premiership-winning superstar he once was.<\/p>\n

"Rather than celebrating what is to come, he's just been under siege, moreso than I've ever seen in his career before," Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffHe looks disinterested. Is he working hard enough?"<\/p>\n

The Essendon great is urging the Tigers to utilise their next game, Dreamtime at the 'G against Essendon on Saturday night, to reignite his passion for the game as he inches closer to game 300. He has currently played 297.<\/p>\n

"I'd be going to Dusty and tapping him and saying, 'this is the biggest game, this is the biggest crowd you'll be playing in front of, 85,000 at the MCG'," Lloyd said of this week's clash against the Bombers.<\/p>\n

"Dusty hasn't played in a win this year. He's zero wins, eight losses.<\/p>\n

"I'd be trying to tap in to motivate this guy, so we can celebrate him for what we should this year, not what's currently going on."<\/p>\n

Lloyd has compared Martin, who is a triple premiership winner, triple Norm Smith Medallist and Brownlow Medallist\ufeff, to Collingwood veteran Scott Pendlebury, who is on the verge of game 400.<\/p>\n

Pendlebury has been "contributing" more than Martin in 2024, according to Lloyd.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"This is a guy that in three weeks' time, we should be celebrating him like Scott Pendlebury. Because Scott is contributing as great as we've seen.<\/p>\n

"I think it's really sad."<\/p>\n

Now, the spotlight lands on the Tigers and how they can bring Martin's hunger back in the twilight of his career.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"My question for Richmond and all those people around is … what are you doing (for Martin)?" Lloyd asked.<\/p>\n

"He's\ufeff lost a very experienced senior coach in Damien Hardwick, he's lost two very experienced players and teammates in Jack Riewoldt and Trent Cotchin, Peggy O'Neal (president), Brendon Gale (CEO) is about to leave."<\/p>\n

Jimmy Bartel has a solution.<\/p>\n

He wants to see Martin head back into the midfield, to be given a damaging role around the ball that could inspire his younger teammates, who are struggling under new coach Adem Yze.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Would you just say, 'we want to see the absolute best of you Dusty … so start on ball each quarter … try to win as much of the footy … let's see the best of you in the run up to 300'," Bartel said.<\/p>\n
