{"id":396197,"date":"2024-05-22T19:25:27","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T19:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=396197"},"modified":"2024-05-22T20:04:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-22T20:04:06","slug":"a-five-sport-athlete-from-florida-is-ready-to-join-the-kentucky-womens-soccer-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=396197","title":{"rendered":"A five-sport athlete from Florida is ready to join the Kentucky women&#039;s soccer team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Future <a href=\"https:\/\/ukwildcatswire.usatoday.com\/\">Kentucky Wildcats<\/a> soccer player Gabby Rourke really must hate free time.<\/p>\n<p>Rourke, who signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) this spring to play in the SEC for the Kentucky Wildcats, is coming off a storied career at <a href=\"https:\/\/dcps.duvalschools.org\/achs\">Atlantic Coast High School<\/a> (Jacksonville, Florida).<\/p>\n<p>She might just be the Jim Thorpe of the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to playing soccer, Rourke also played flag football, tackle football, softball and volleyball &#8211; all at the varsity level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxpreps.com\/fl\/jacksonville\/atlantic-coast-stingrays\/athletes\/gaby-rourke\/flag-football\/girls\/stats\/?careerid=msevtt6codnsc\">for the Stingrays<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In tackle football, she was Atlantic Coast&#8217;s placekicker and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstcoastnews.com\/article\/sports\/high-school\/hs-football\/gaby-rourke-becomes-2nd-girls-flag-football-athlete-from-duval-county-to-amass-1000-receiving-yards\/77-f60cca03-fc6a-4678-813c-7b0ab17b99e8\">first female to ever make the varsity team<\/a>. In flag football, she showed off her athleticism with 87 catches for 1,046 yards and 17 receiving touchdowns. She was also the team captain.<\/p>\n<p>Someone give Mark Stoops a call.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and she excels in the classroom too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBalancing the AP classes, balancing all the sports, all the practices, all the games, it was a struggle,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/sports\/2024\/05\/22\/atlantic-coast-five-sport-athlete-gaby-rourke-is-ready-to-kick-it-at-kentucky\/\">Rourke told News4Jax<\/a> in a recent interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really don\u2019t think it gets talked about enough about academics and how that can really tear down an athlete\u2019s mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rourke will play goalkeeper for Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce I stepped on the pitch when I was around 8 years old I just knew I wanted to play soccer,\u201d Rourke told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/sports\/2024\/05\/22\/atlantic-coast-five-sport-athlete-gaby-rourke-is-ready-to-kick-it-at-kentucky\/\">News4Jax.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing just has the same passion that I get with soccer.
