If Andrew Johns<\/a> and Brad Fittler<\/a> were the selectors for the NSW side, their Sunday afternoon meeting would threaten to roll well into the night with the two Blues legends differing on nine picks for Origin I<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the recent Blues<\/a> coach and the state's greatest halfback agree on the halves combination and the fullback Michael Maguire should select, their preferred forward pack and bench \ufeffare wildly different.<\/p>\n

Johns and Fittler would both stick solid with James Tedesco and\ufeff pick incumbent five-eighth Cody Walker to partner in-form Cronulla halfback Nicho Hynes.<\/p>\n

To complete their spines, Fittler would stick with his preferred hooker from 2023, Api Koroisau, while Johns would opt for the man who replaced him when he was unavailable for game two due to a facial fracture, Reece Robson.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the backline, Johns backed the selection claims of tearaway Sharks centre Jesse Ramien and Roosters gun Joseph Sua'ali'i to make their debuts, while Fittler would stick with past series winners and game breakers Latrell Mitchell and forgotten winger Josh Addo-Carr.<\/p>\n

But it's the forward pack where things get really interesting, with Fittler implementing a radical shake-up that would see Liam Martin called upon to play in the front row alongside Payne Haas, making room for three strike edge back-rowers in his 17, with Haumole Olakau'atu and Angus Crichton to start and Hudson Young to come off the bench.<\/p>\n

Johns, meanwhile stuck solid with the front row combination of Jake Trbojevic and Haas, with Martin in his more customary edge back-row role alongside Crichton. He picked both Olakau'atu and Young on the bench.<\/p>\n

The differing strategies allowed Fittler to pick what some might consider a luxury bench player, going with both a specialist hooker (Mitch Kenny) and a backline \ufeffutility (Matt Burton) to give the side flexibility in the case of injury.<\/p>\n

Johns, on the other hand, picked a more traditional bench utility, giving the nod to Cameron McInnes, who specialises at hooker and lock but can play anywhere in the pack, alongside a prop and two edge back-rowers.\ufeff<\/p>\n
