Day one of unemployment for Brad Arthur<\/a> was not the way he would have hoped to celebrate this 50th birthday.<\/p>\n

But the sacked Eels coach has handled the ordeal with class – saying he has no bitterness towards the club, despite them trying to lure outgoing Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett over the past few weeks.<\/p>\n

Arthur was axed effective immediately on Monday afternoon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite the\ufeff shock axing, that was conveyed to him in a 10 minute meeting on Monday<\/a>, Arthur holds no grudges, reflecting fondly on his tenure at the top.<\/p>\n

\"Eels<\/p>\n

"I'm not bitter. I'm not cranky. Bit disappointed, but I'm grateful," Arthur told 9News Sydney's Danny Weidler on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"I've had a great life for the last 11 years and I wouldn't change any part of it.<\/p>\n

"The 11 years that the club has given me, and that the playing group has given me, has allowed me to support and look after my family\ufeff."<\/p>\n

Meantime, Arthur has expressed his gratitude towards his playing group, who have thrown their arms around him amidst the news.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's been overwhelming, the support from the players," he said.<\/p>\n

"They are such a pleasure to coach and they always did exactly what I asked them to do.<\/p>\n

"We didn't always get it right, but they always did exactly what I asked them to do.<\/p>\n

"Every player in the group has contacted me, with a phone call or text.<\/p>\n

"I'm looking forward to watching them turn it around, because they can."<\/p>\n

But the 50-year-old is far from done coaching yet.<\/p>\n

"I still want to coach\ufeff, but I don't need to be in a rush for that. That will happen when it's meant to happen," he said.<\/p>\n
