Phil Gould<\/a> believes Nicho Hynes<\/a>\ufeff is at the peak of his powers and the only replacement option for Nathan Cleary as a halfback in the Blues' Origin I line-up.<\/p>\n

Hynes produced two try assists and nailed seven goals in the Sharks' 38-30 victory over the Roosters<\/a> in front of a packed Suncorp Stadium in Magic Round.<\/p>\n

Another stellar performance has added to his case for Origin selection, with Gould heaping praise on the halfback.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"If that was an audition for Origin, he could not have done more than he did," Gould said on Nine's 100% Footy.<\/em><\/p>\n

"He's won player of the year awards. He's been the mainstay of the Sharks since he took that jersey on."<\/p>\n

\"Nicho<\/p>\n

Gould says there's no better time for the 27-year-old to lead the Blues in the series, especially with their star Cleary ruled out with a hamstring strain.<\/p>\n

Cleary will miss around eight weeks.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"His form this year has been outstanding, his team's leading the competition, and there's a vacancy there\ufeff because Nathan Cleary is not available," he said.<\/p>\n

"He could not have done more than he's done\ufeff."<\/p>\n

Paul Gallen echoed the praise.<\/p>\n

"If he doesn't get picked now, he's not going to get picked ever. He's in great form," Gallen said.<\/p>\n

Gallen took it one step further, insinuating that Hynes should have already been a lock in the Blues side, even if Cleary wasn't ruled out injured.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think even if Cleary was available, he deserves a spot at five-eight," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's got to be there."<\/p>\n

\ufeffHynes himself says he is prepared for the challenge that likely awaits.<\/p>\n
