Anthony Edwards overcame a slow start and the Timberwolves roared back from a 20 point second half deficit to eliminate the reigning NBA<\/a> champion Denver Nuggets 98-90 in a game seven Minnesota masterpiece on Monday (AEST).<\/p>\n

The Timberwolves<\/a> overcame a 15 point halftime deficit – the largest comeback in a game seven in NBA playoff history – behind Edwards, who had just four points, no rebounds and three assists at halftime but finished with 16 points, eight boards and seven assists.<\/p>\n

As the seconds ticked away, Edwards dribbled the ball up court and took time to wave goodbye to the crowd (watch the video above).<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Wolves, who got 23 points each from Karl-Anthony Towns and Jaden McDaniels, advanced to the Western Conference finals for the first time in 20 years.<\/p>\n

They'll face the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday (AEST).<\/p>\n

The Nuggets became the fifth consecutive defending champion to fail to reach the conference finals.<\/p>\n

Behind Jamal Murray's 24 first half points, the Nuggets raced to a 53-38 halftime lead and a Murray's three pushed Denver's lead to 58-38 in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

The Wolves turned to their defence, the NBA's stingiest, to get back into the game, and they closed the quarter on a 28-9 run to pull to 67-66 heading into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

Rudy Gobert gave the Wolves their first lead since the first quarter with a bucket to start the fourth and when Towns picked up his fifth foul, Naz Reid, the NBA's sixth man of the year, was spectacular at both ends of the floor to keep Minnesota ahead.<\/p>\n

In one crucial stretch that started with Minnesota ahead 85-82, Reid had two free throws and a dunk before feeding Edwards for a back breaking three that put the Wolves ahead 92-82 with three minutes left.<\/p>\n

Murray led Denver with 35 points while MVP Nikola Jokic added 34 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists.<\/p>\n

This marked the Timberwolves' first game seven since beating Sacramento in the second round 20 years earlier.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Indiana Pacers beat the New York Knicks 130-109 in game seven to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 10 years.<\/p>\n

Tyrese Haliburton scored 26 points and the Pacers set an NBA playoff record by shooting 67.1 per cent from the field.<\/p>\n

"We have a historic offence but this guy got things rolling and everybody kind of just followed suit," Pacers centre Myles Turner said, pointing toward Haliburton.<\/p>\n

The No.6 seed Pacers advanced to face the top seed Boston Celtics in a series that begins on Wednesday (AEST).<\/p>\n

Knicks star Jalen Brunson left in the second half with a broken left hand.<\/p>\n
