BRISBANE:<\/strong> Brad Arthur<\/a> has again defended his role as Eels<\/a> coach, despite a horror second-half display against the Storm<\/a> on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Despite being in the game at half-time, with just six points separating the two teams, Parramatta was blown out of the park in the second half, going down 48-16 as Melbourne rallied in the absence of star five-eighth Cameron Munster<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking to media post-game, Arthur was blunt in his assessment of the blue and gold's performance, questioning the resilience of the Eels.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe second half was embarrassing," he said.<\/p>\n

"We just fell in a hole for a period of 10 or 15 minutes, lacked resilience in that period and we just kept digging. We'd fight out of it … but the damage was done.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's happened too often the last month or so. We are lacking that resilience to defend a set and when things seem to go against us, we are dropping our heads."<\/p>\n

Parramatta's dismal effort at Magic Round has now placed the spotlight on the coach, who after taking the club to a grand final appearance in 2022, is now under immense pressure to keep his job beyond this season.<\/p>\n

Arthur \ufeffconceded the pressure will only rise after the loss to Melbourne, but isn't willing to back down just yet as the Eels fight to save their campaign.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"It's gonna be the same – but I have never walked away from a fight," he said.<\/p>\n

"We're gonna keep fighting hard. I still believe in this team, but they've got to start to believe in themselves. \ufeffThe facts will be there at the end of the year, but we need to get better at managing the game while we've got Mitch [Moses] out.<\/p>\n

"There hasn't been any indication from the club towards me – all they want to do is get around us and support us. All that matters is what we're doing on the field.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffNothing is fair in our game, we can't be sooks about it. We can only go on the facts and the facts are, we're not playing good enough and I'm the head coach."<\/p>\n

Arthur's press conference was cut short as the questions about his future at the club swirled, with the long-standing coach facing a do-or-die clash next weekend. \ufeff<\/p>\n
