Ange Postecoglou<\/a> claims he had his "worst experience" as a manager during Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>'s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

The much-anticipated game left Tottenham fans torn as to which team they support, as a Spurs victory would have granted north London rivals Arsenal<\/a> the Premier League<\/a> title.<\/p>\n

Postecoglou mocked suggestions of the matter during his pre-game press conference on Tuesday (AEST), however, admitted he feared that his integrity would be questioned as a result of his prior actions.<\/p>\n

Had Tottenham been victorious on Wednesday (AEST), Mikel Arteta's men would have needed to defeat Everton to win the title. However, due to City's triumph, the Gunners' title hopes have been diminished.<\/p>\n

Spurs need to avoid defeat against relegated Sheffield United on Sunday to secure a fifth-place finish and a spot in the Europa League<\/a>. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Postecoglou believes the game could have gone a very different way had City's goalkeeper Stefan Ortega not denied Son Heung-min of a point late in the game. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"That's probably my worst experience I've had as a football manager in a game," Postecoglou said.<\/p>\n

"Once I realised I'd got it wrong in terms of what the atmosphere was going to be like and what people felt, I got a real anxiety within me of, 'What happens if Man City, the best team in the world, who was disposing of teams quite easily in the lead-up, what if we play as well as we can and they beat us 5-0?'"<\/p>\n

"I got cold sweats thinking about people questioning my integrity and the people I work with.<\/p>\n

"Even watching the game back, there was a comment on the commentary, 'Oh, Tottenham are having a real go here.' You are laughing about it, but that is 26 years of my life.<\/p>\n

"That's why I was animated on the night. I did not enjoy that night.<\/p>\n

"I needed the boys – and credit to them – aside from everything else, their football was outstanding on the night. That was important for our football club.<\/p>\n

"It would have cast aspersions on us as a football club. I don't think anyone can say we didn't make Man City earn that win the other night. \ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe 58-year-old caused a stir when he appeared to criticise home fans and claimed he was "out of step" when mocking their feelings about Arsenal. \ufeff<\/p>\n

He also suggested there is a wave of "fragility" within the club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Supporters are there to back their club and do their bit," he said.<\/p>\n

"They've certainly done their bit for us this year. The amount of games we've won late at the stadium has been extraordinary and the supporters have played a big part in that. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It wasn't just Spurs supporters. Everyone I heard said they understood how they felt.<\/p>\n

"Well, I don't understand. I just can't think of anything worse than not going all in on victory every time you're out there.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The last game, I don't understand. I sat here the day before and mocked the whole thing. I really didn't believe that was the case.<\/p>\n

"But if that's how people feel? I'm not a Spurs supporter. They are. They're the custodians, not me.<\/p>\n

"All I can say is to offer my opinion on what you need to be successful. For me, you can't be successful if your motivations change depending on the contest.<\/p>\n
