T\ufeffhe Brisbane Broncos<\/a> have held off a fast-finishing Manly Sea Eagles<\/a> outfit to triumph 13-12 on the opening night of Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium.<\/p>\n

However, the victory was soured by a baffling injury scare to prop \ufeffPayne Haas<\/a>, who was helped from the field in the hands of the trainers after suffering a lower leg injury.<\/p>\n

Haas initially struggled to put any pressure on his left leg as he headed to the sheds.<\/p>\n

"It looks like they are going to have to roll him off," Billy Slater said in commentary for Nine. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"He's holding the middle part of his leg between his knee and his ankle.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Nine's sideline reporter Danika Mason later said Brisbane's medical staff were perplexed by Haas' injury as he had "lost power in his lower leg\ufeff".<\/p>\n

It was later discovered that during a tackle, an opposing player's knee was driven into the back of Haas' leg hitting a nerve which caused the pain and loss of function.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Once they could rectify the issue, he was fine," Mason confirmed post-match.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Fortunately, \ufeffHaas returned to the field 14 minutes later and played out the rest of the match with his leg strapped.<\/p>\n

Any injury would have NSW Blues coach Michael Maguire sweating with Tom Trbojevic, Mitchell Moses, Nathan Cleary and Cameron Murray already set to miss Origin I with injury.<\/p>\n

The Broncos are also battling a growing casualty ward with Adam Reynolds, Reece Walsh, Billy Walters and Jesse Arthars sidelined.<\/p>\n

Second-rower Brendan Piakura opened the scoring for the Broncos in the sixth minute after being sent over by teammate Jock Madden.<\/p>\n

In the 10th minute, Broncos prop Taniela Paseka was marched to the sin bin for a professional foul, but the disadvantage did little to slow the Broncos as centre Deine Mariner dived over in the corner to score.<\/p>\n

At the main break, Brisbane led Manly \ufeff12-0. However, the Broncos' advantage was quickly sliced in half.<\/p>\n

Winger Reuben Garrick finally broke through for the Sea Eagles in the 50th minute \u2014 dancing past several Broncos defenders to score.<\/p>\n

With back-to-back tries and conversions, a stunning solo effort from Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega helped level the score with 11 minutes left to play.<\/p>\n

Some lovely ball work from Tolutau Koula freed space down the sideline for Vaega, who toppled over Josiah Karapani to score.\ufeff<\/p>\n
