T\ufeffhe NRL<\/a> has vowed to make the Women's opening State of Origin match<\/a> a permanent fixture of Magic Round, after record crowds and viewership.<\/p>\n

ARL Commission boss Peter V'landys<\/a> was proudly spruiking the growth in the showpiece women's fixture as he announced the NRL will keep Magic Round in Brisbane until 2027\ufeff, revealing the women's interstate series will continue to open the festivities.<\/p>\n

A record crowd of over 25,000 people turned up at Suncorp Stadium to watch the game live, while the TV ratings also saw a major jump, according to V'landys.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I'm pleased to announce the ratings were up 40 per cent on year-to year. It was the biggest audience we've ever had to a women's game," V'landys said.<\/p>\n

"If you look at those results, it would be very difficult to take it away from Magic Round. It nearly hit a million viewers which is remarkable.<\/p>\n

"It shows just how far the women's game has come and it's just rewards for those ladies."<\/p>\n

V'landys hailed the partnership with the Queensland government in making Magic Round a pivotal part of the NRL calendar.<\/p>\n

He said while the Queenslanders "screwed us on price" and did not come in with the highest bid to keep the event in the state, he believes it creates a perfect platform for the women's Origin series.<\/p>\n

The league boss confirmed there's interest in taking the women's series to other states and even New Zealand, and declared it "can be just as successful as the men's".<\/p>\n
