Matthew Lloyd<\/a> believes Carlton<\/a>'s growing soft tissue injury list will be the only reason they can't win the premiership in 2024.<\/p>\n

It comes as Damien Barrett says the pressure is quickly mounting on \ufeffCarlton's high performance manager Andrew Russell, who is in control of that very injury list.<\/p>\n

And that list is growing by the week, with seven players currently ruled out with soft tissue issues, not including the six other injuries to separate players.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Adam Cerra (hamstring), Zac Williams (glute), Adam Saad (hamstring), Jack Martin (calf), David Cunningham (calf), Jesse Motlop (hamstring) and Jack Carroll have all been struggling to overcome soft tissue injuries.<\/p>\n

At the start of May, Blues CEO Brian Cook defended the club's high performance manager Russell and his program, despite the list continuing to grow.<\/p>\n

"Some boys are more resilient than others," Cook said on SEN radio at the start of the month.<\/p>\n

"Is it resilience issue with our players, or is it our football program, or is it a combination of both?<\/p>\n

"It's just unfortunate we've had the same players get injured two or three years in a row."<\/p>\n

But Barrett doesn't buy Cook's defence of Russell, declaring that the program may be the reason they don't win a flag this year.<\/p>\n

"When Brian Cook says 'there's nothing to see here, it's just unlucky', well, there's a premiership at stake here right now," Barrett said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

"It's, unfortunately for Andrew Russell\ufeff, on him as much as anyone.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Lloyd echoed Barrett's concerns, insinuating that the Blues' best football, with their best players, could genuinely beat anyone.<\/p>\n

But it's not, considering the size of their injury list.\ufeff\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's the most important aspect and piece of the puzzle in your footy club (an injury-free list)," Lloyd said.<\/p>\n

"Throughout the season, if you're going to win the premiership, \ufeffyou need some good luck with injury.<\/p>\n

"Unfortunately for Carlton, their form is really good, this is just the one piece that's absolutely killing them."<\/p>\n

The Blues have dropped three games so far in 2024, going down to the Crows by two points, Geelong by 13 and Collingwood by six.<\/p>\n

"If they had a full strength side, I could see them going from prelim to grand final, this is the only thing holding them back," Lloyd said.<\/p>\n

Lloyd also declared that Russell would already be looking into his program and asking questions as to why the same players are continually suffering the same injuries.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I've seen it before. You've got to starting thinking 'was there something we did within the program?', particularly if they happen consistently," he said.<\/p>\n

"If another one happens next week and the week after, you know you've got a problem\ufeff."<\/p>\n

The Blues sit seventh on the ladder after nine rounds, looking ahead to their clash against Sydney\ufeff at the SCG on Friday night.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
